This course is designed for adults without any Chinese language background. You will learn the basic Mandarin phonetic system (Pinyin) and will practice frequently used Chinese expressions and everyday words. Oral and listening skills will be emphasized. Basic Chinese grammar and character writing system will also be introduced.

This course is designed for those who have completed Beginning Chinese (I), or the equivalent, have learned the Pinyin system, and have grasped a few hundred spoken Chinese words and basic conversation sentences. This course will help you improve your Chinese so you will be able to speak and understand more complex topics. In addition, extra support and guidance will be offered to those who would like to improve their Chinese Character reading and writing.

These special language classes are geared toward young learners and are designed for those without any Chinese language background. A variety of visual, musical, and interactive methods will be used to teach young students to speak the Chinese language and to recognize basic Chinese characters. The course will stimulate their interest in learning Chinese, and will lay a foundation for further learning. Pinyin, the Mandarin phonetic system, and a couple hundred of the most frequently used Chinese characters will be taught.

The purpose of this course is to introduce you to the philosophy and practice of Tai Chi, an ancient Chinese health exercise. Tai Chi is a sequence of gestures and movements that are gentle and fluid yet have profound power. It is a form of energy cultivation and internal martial art. The course will focus on the techniques of relaxation, breath control, balance, internal strength, mental concentration and visual focus. Tai Chi practice has been known to have tremendous health benefits such as reducing tension, high blood pressure, and arthritis. Through Tai Chi exercises students will experience improved overall health by stimulating and balancing chi flow (life energy) in the body.

You can register for all 15 workshops in the Chinese Culture Series as a whole course or you can register for individual workshops and lectures. This course is designed for those who wish to deepen their understanding of the Chinese culture and society for professional, personal, or academic purposes. These classes will introduce and highlight traditional and contemporary issues and topics that range geographically (urban verses rural) and in time from early civilization to the present.
Registration Fee: $175 for all classes (Individual classes are $15 per night.)
Note: Seminars are subject to cancel if there are fewer than 7 registered. If the seminar is canceled, the tuition can be refund or transferred to other courses.
