The Office of Professional Development (OPD) is a unit of Continuing & Professional Education at NC State University. OPD is dedicated to the development and delivery of noncredit continuing education and professional development programs. We offer a wide variety of seminars/short courses, conferences, certificate programs and distance education opportunities for all kinds of professionals who want to enhance their skills and go further in their careers.
Impacts and Achievements
Of the thirty-four participants surveyed three months after the last week of the December '06 four-week session of the Facilities Engineering Management (FEM) diploma program, six cited at least one change in their work habits or procedures; five cited specific impacts in their job performance (i.e., greater confidence in "doing their job", improved communications among team members, conducting safety and gap analyses for improving the company's safety program and having ideas of how to accomplish tasks), and six stated that the program has benefited their company financially through energy savings, ranging from $9,000 to $220, 000 per year. Feedback obtained from Wyeth Pharmaceuticals in Sanford indicates that the FEM Program has been designated as the education program of choice for all of their facilities engineers throughout the company.
